Vuze is fully compatible with the most recent releases of Java (release family 8) and recommends upgrading to this version. (For more information about Oracle support for older versions of Java, visit ).
However, support for this version from Oracle came to an end in 2009, and so Vuze must move forward to support only newer versions of the Java platform and to phase out support for Java version 1.5. As a matter of policy Vuze and the Azureus project have remained backward-compatible with version 1.5 of the Java environment, which was released in 2004.
The Vuze client (earlier known as Azureus) requires the Java runtime environment (JRE) in order to function.
